Cheltenham & Gloucester Beer Week (CGBW) is back again for another year with more partners and venues than ever, a whole host of brilliant beery events, seven Ale-Trails for you to visit, numerous special offers and all sorts of other beery related shenanigans coming your way over the 10-day period from Friday September 14th to Sunday September 23rd.

CGBW2018 builds on the successful event held last year, which itself built on the ‘Cheltenham Beer Week’ which took place in 2016. The primary aim of a beer week is to move away from the concept of a ‘Beer Festival’ which is usually held in one location and limited to a few days, towards more of a celebration of beer held over a 10 day period, with diverse events held at many different locations across the week.

The concept of Beer Weeks in the UK first started in 2011 when Norwich held their first ‘City of Ale’ programme of events. Since then 14 cities including London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham have held Beer weeks. More cities and towns are expected to launch their own beer weeks in 2018, with a web site now being dedicated to their promotion in the UK: https://www.beercities.org.uk/

Beer weeks have a very strong following in the USA where nearly every major city holds one and many smaller towns have been running events for many years.
